LAVENDON is a parish and large village, 3 miles from Olney, 9½ from Bedford, 12 from Northampton, and 8 from Newport Pagnell, in the hundred, union and county court district and rural deanery of Newport Pagnell, archdeaconry of Buckingham, and diocese of Oxford. The church of St Mary, which has been recently restored, at a cost of £800, has a nave, side aisles, and chancel, with tower and 5 bells, and is in the Saxon style of architecture: there are two stained glass windows, one in the east of the chancel, given by Mr. Benjamin S. Brookes, the other given by Mr. H. Coles; in the church there are four piscinae. The earliest date of parish register is 1574. The living is a rectory, with Cold Brayfield annexed, joint annual value £284, with

residence, in the gift of, and held by, the Rev William Tomkins, M.A., of St Catherine’s College, Cambridge. The rent of 9 acres of land and three cottages was left by an unknown donor for the repairs of the church. The population in 1861 was 820; the acreage is 2,562.
