Lavendon Gypsy Site Application Rejected
 - 25 March 2010

The application to establish a Gypsy Traveller Site on land opposite the Cemetary was firmly rejected at a packed public meeting of the MK Council Planning Committee held at the Civic Offices on 25 March.

The application was opposed by nearly 500 local residents primarily on the grounds of highway safety, greenfield development outside of the village envelope and in a designated Area of Attractive Landscape; also on grounds of sustainability (inadequate local facilities) and various other local factors.

The Chairman of LADRA, David Tomkins, and LADRA members Andrew Jackson and Geraldine Schofield addressed the planning committee, expressing concerns on behalf of Lavendon Residents, as did Olney Ward Councillors, Debbie Brock and Peter Geary.

The planning committee formally rejected the application on grounds of highway safety, inadequate access & visibility and the personal safety issues of those attempting to cross the fast moving A428 traffic, all contrary to MK planning policies T9, D1(vi), T10 and H12(v).

Travellers Site Application 25th March 2010

As you are probably aware by now through that well known medium ‘the Lavendon Grapevine’, the application for a Travellers’ site on the Bedford Road was unanimously rejected by Milton Keynes Council at a Development Committee Meeting on the 25th March.

We, the LADRA Committee really appreciate the support of the community who sent around 500 letters of objection and overfilled the public gallery to hear the application.

It is very likely that the decision will be taken to appeal and this will mean a Public Enquiry involving Barristers and legal representation.

At this stage we have no idea of the timeframe involved but we will keep you informed.

It would be appreciated if you would pass this on to neighbours and friends in the village who do not have access to a computer, thereby keeping ‘the grapevine’ going.

David Tomkins
Chairman LADRA
