The view above is taken from the western side of the village looking eastwards. The A428 road to Northampton is in the bottom left-hand corner, Castle Road strikes out across the fields top left and the High Street/Bedford Road heads off top right. The Harrold Road is just visible in the top right-hand corner. In comparison with the modern-day aerial view below, local observers will notice in particular the absence in the 1948 view of the larger developments at The Glebe, Joiners Way and Castle Road, as well as many other smaller infill developments including of course the new school.
It is also possible to see in the earlier view that one element of the A428 village road widening scheme had already begun along the Northampton Road (a little beyond the second telegraph pole in the bottom left-hand corner) where a newly planted line of hedging has been set back in the adjoining field showing the revised carriageway boundary. The nearby extensive length of stone walling on the left-hand side of the road was removed, together with many of the trees and shrubs contained behind it, in order to complete the road widening shortly after this 1948 aerial view was taken.
